Gossip Girl star replaces Garrett Hedlund in new film

Thomas Doherty, star of the recent Gossip Girl reboot and Disney's Descendants, has replaced Garrett Hedlund in upcoming thriller The Bride.

Doherty, who Gossip Girl fans will better know as Max Wolfe, has taken over the role following Hedlund's departure. The actor will star alongside Game of Thrones favourite Nathalie Emmanuel – AKA Missandei – in the horror.

According to Deadline, Doherty and Emmanuel will join forces with the likes of Hugh Skinner, Sean Pertwee, and Courtney Taylor for the Jessica M Thompson-directed movie.

Ahead of her latest big-screen project, Emmanuel recently opened up about the controversial death of her Game of Thrones character, admitting that she knew fans would "feel her loss".

"When I learned that Missandei was going to die, I knew that, as the only woman of colour on the show, I knew that people would feel her loss, like the loss of her, because she's also just like a really kind, good character," the actress said earlier this year.

"[But] I was not anticipating, I guess, the size of the reaction that happened.

"I think that really sparked a conversation about, when we make these shows in the future, when we are casting these shows, like, do we just have to have the one person – is there space for more of us?"

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. Spin-off House of the Dragon is now filming.
