Spider-Man's Andrew Garfield calls photo with Tobey Maguire fake

Andrew Garfield has shut down rumours that he and Tobey Maguire will make a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home yet again, after a photo circulated online seemingly showing the pair on set of the upcoming film.

In a virtual appearance on The Tonight Show, Garfield told host Jimmy Fallon that the photo – which has since been deleted – was a result of Photoshop.

Fallon told the former Spider-Man that he'd seen the picture and wanted to congratulate him on his upcoming cameo, to which Garfield responded: "Wait, what?!… I had no idea… What are you talking about?"

Garfield asked to see the photo, but Fallon said "it's been erased off the internet". Garfield jibed back: "Oh, how convenient Detective Fallon!"

Addressing the rumours officially, Garfield said: "I heard about [the photo], and I did see it, and it's a Photoshop. I'm trying to manage expectations."

However, he did add: "Look, if they want to give me a call at this late, late stage in the game, you know, I'm just sitting here in my tracksuit."

Fallon said "they should reshoot the film" just to let Garfield have the constantly fan-requested cameo.

There are a number of cameos confirmed in the upcoming MCU instalment, including Alfred Molina's Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, but Garfield and Maguire have repeatedly attempted to dispel rumours that either will be back as Peter Parker.

In the interview, Garfield also told Fallon how "excited" he was for the latest Spidey film, despite not being asked to cameo.

"I'm excited, and I think that Tom Holland is just the perfect Peter Parker and Spider-Man," he explained. "So I'm just super stoked."

"And I get to just be a fan again, which is my preferred position, to be able to sit in the audience and just kind of go, 'Yeah, you screwed up, mate! You didn't do it as well as you could, like!' I get to be that guy… which is much more fun," Garfield joked.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is available now on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download. Spider-Man: No Way Home has a December 17, 2021 release date.
