Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings could be moving closer to a sequel thanks to the warm reception from fans.

Explaining the situation to ComicBook, Marvel boss Kevin Feige said he's "always confident and nervous in equal proportions" regarding the future of the studio's stable of superheroes.

"The early reactions to the characters and to [Shang-Chi] itself gives me great hope that that people will want to see more of these characters.

"We certainly have many ideas of where to take them and where to put them," he revealed. "What's so fun, we know the movie's working when it's not just the title character that people ask about, but it is the co-stars or the supporting players that people ask about.

"And in this movie in particular, that's heartening because we think they're spectacular, and we think they have great potential in the future."

You only need to take a quick glimpse at Marvel's output since 2008 to recognise almost every one of its superpowered heroes gets a standalone movie and sequel – Black Widow being the exception.

Worst case scenario: even if Shang-Chi wasn't awarded his own follow-up, the very nature of the MCU dictates that he'll crop up many times in future crossover releases.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is due for release on September 3, 2021 in the UK and US.
