The Suicide Squad's James Gunn has said superhero movies are "mostly boring" now.
The Guardians of the Galaxy director is behind the forthcoming Worlds of DC film and HBO Max spin-off series Peacemaker, which stars John Cena and recently debuted its first-look image.
However, speaking recently, Gunn explained that his aim in directing The Suicide Squad was to actually do something different within the superhero genre, having grown adverse to the "boring" movies presumably within DC, Marvel and Sony's Universe of Marvel characters.

Revealing it isn't a "100% rule", Gunn also doesn't refer to any films in particular.
"They're mostly boring to me right now!" he told SFX Magazine.
"I loved them at the beginning and there are still people trying to do different things [with them], so it's not a 100% rule, but a lot of them are boring.
"So I think it's about bringing in other elements from different genres."
The comments follow Gunn teasing the identity of The Suicide Squad's main character.

They also follow a Suicide Squad producer revealing why the movie is not a sequel to or reboot of David Ayer's film.
The Suicide Squad is released in cinemas in the UK on July 30 and in the US on August 5.
