Fantastic Beasts actor Eddie Redmayne is reportedly eyeing up a new movie chronicling the 2016 Cambridge Analytica scandal.

According to TheWrap, the Oscar-winner is still in negotiations alongside director Peter Farrelly (Green Book), while the project itself will be produced by The Avengers duo Anthony and Joe Russo.

Five years ago, British data company Cambridge Analytica, which also plied its trade in political consultation, was alleged to have illegally gathered unauthorised personal and private data from Facebook, affecting approximately 87 million users.

The purpose of this was to create targeted advertising campaigns online that'd be used to influence voters in the 2016 US election.

Redmayne is expected to portray Christopher Wylie in the untitled movie – a Canadian whistleblower who handed over documents to The Guardian that sparked the scandal.

The Russo brothers are keeping this one in the Marvel Studios family too, with Avengers: Endgame scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on writing duties.

Elsewhere in Redmayne's cinematic future, he's just completed filming on next year's drama The Good Nurse opposite X-Men: Dark Phoenix's Jessica Chastain and The Walking Dead's Noah Emmerich.
