Vikings star Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Pretty Little Liars actor Luke Kleintank have been lined up to lead a new thriller movie about a pair of neighbours whose relationship takes a dark turn.

The Good Neighbour focuses on new neighbours David and Robert, who become bonded after a hit-and-run accident which kills a girl, according to Variety.

When the girl's sister turns up to investigate the incident, David is overcome with guilt and desperate to find redemption. Robert, meanwhile, wants to bury the past and have his new friend all to himself, no matter what it costs.

The movie, which is a remake of 2011 German thriller film Unter Nachbarn, will be directed by The Super director Stephan Rick, who also directed the German original. Rick will also write the film's script alongside Ross Partridge, who played Lonnie Byers in Stranger Things.

Rhys Meyers is known for his role as Heahmund in Vikings, as well as for playing a young King Henry VIII in period drama The Tudors. He has also played Dracula in 2013's Dracula series and Elvis Presley in CBS mini-series Elvis, with roles in movies such as Mission: Impossible III and Vanity Fair also under his belt.

If you're already missing Vikings after it aired its sixth and final season last year, the good news is that the show's boss Michael Hirst has lined up a new TV project – although it sounds quite far removed from the brutal world of Vikings.

Hirst's new show will be a reimagining of F Scott Fitzgerald's classic 1925 novel The Great Gatsby and is set to explore New York's Black community and the musical subculture, as well as taking a deeper dive into the novel's famous characters.

Vikings seasons 1-6 are streaming via Amazon Prime Video.
