Fans of Sir Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy can go on an unexpected journey for a very unexpected bargain!

The three-film series is currently being collected for one of Amazon UK's Summer Offer sales, marked down 12% off its list price of £13.99 to £12.30. Purchase the DVD set here.

This trilogy includes the theatrical cuts of all three of Sir Peter's Hobbit films – An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies.

This sale has been announced shortly after the announcement that Andy Serkis would be reprising his role from the films as Gollum.

Serkis recently took part in a livestream to raise money for NHS Charities Together and baby charity Best Beginnings, where he read the entirety of Tolkien's novel The Hobbit.

Martin Freeman has also recently been reflecting on playing Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit series, revealing that his casting almost didn't happen because of his previous commitment to Sherlock.

What to Read Next

"Peter Jackson has rearranged the schedule of The Hobbit around you, so that you can start The Hobbit, then go off and do Sherlock and then finish The Hobbit again," Martin recalled being told in a Vanity Fair interview.

"That was quite a phone call. That was an amazing thing to hear, because talk about a vote of confidence. [Peter Jackson] could have had a lot of people doing Bilbo Baggins, and the fact that he had that much faith in me, that was astonishing really.

"And the fact that he could move a schedule as titanic as that was going to be and a production like that, which does not move quickly, was kind of amazing."

Luckily for Hobbit fans, the scheduling was all worked out in the end!
