Frozen 2 star Sterling K Brown has admitted he was disappointed that his song was cut from the movie.

During an interview for behind-the-scene series Into the Unknown: Frozen II, the actor – who voices soldier Mattias in the hugely popular Disney sequel – opened up about how he felt when he realised his character's track 'See the Sky' wasn't going to make it into the theatrical version.

"I was gonna sing a song. I sang for the audition. My song got cut," he explained. "Maybe in Frozen 3.

"You trust that [directors] Jen [Lee] and Chris [Buck] have an overall vision for what the story needs to be, and if it didn't fit in the story that they're now telling you're like, 'OK, it didn't fit in the story.'

"But you mourn. You're like, 'Oh, that was always fun.' And then they come up with something else that's really, really, fun."

Set three years after Elsa's coronation, Frozen 2 sees the new Queen, her sister Anna (Kristen Bell) and their friends Olaf (Josh Gad), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Sven venture far beyond the walls of Arendelle in an attempt to save the kingdom from some menacing spirits.

During their travels, they stumble across a mysterious enchanted forest, and discover that Mattias and his fellow army men – who served Elsa and Anna's grandfather Runeard when he was king – have been trapped in there for over 30 years.

"Originally, he was in the forest by himself, isolated, and only had himself to talk to," Brown previously told Yahoo. "So I would have scenes where I talk to myself and the whole thing, and then someone like Anna would chime in and I'd be like, 'I didn't say that. Did I say that?'

"It was interesting interplay, because I'd never heard another voice. So that went away and the song had to be re-conceived."

Frozen 2 is out on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now. It is also available on Sky Cinema, NOW TV and Disney+.
