Artemis Fowl has arrived on Disney+ today (June 12) after originally being intended for cinemas, and... it's not good. In Digital Spy's review, we called it "incomplete", citing scenes that appeared in trailers but not the movie, and how it jumps around narratively. Other reviews were similarly critical.

What is interesting is that Disney have chosen to release some of the film's deleted scenes alongside the movie.

You can find them by going to the film on the streaming service and looking in the Extras menu. The one entitled 'Search from the Book' is worth a watch for fans, since it's a key sequence from the first book.

While it is cool that Disney aren't holding back on these extras to promote a potential DVD/Blu-ray release, it does raise the question of why some of these scenes weren't just placed back into the film in the first place. It's not like they have to worry about the film being too long for cinemas anymore.

Sir Kenneth Branagh, who directed the movie, is hopeful that a sequel could actually happen, stating: "There is [a chance], and, well, who knows? The audience decides, for sure, and I think there are lots of things that I think have immense potential."

What to Read Next

Given the film's tumultuous (and expensive) journey to release, and the revenue metrics of streaming being very different to a traditional release, it's easy to imagine that any sequels would be much more low-budget affairs, if they happen at all.

Artemis Fowl is available to stream on Disney+ now.
