Disney's Artemis Fowl was supposed to hit cinemas next month. But in light of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the big-screen adaptation of Eoin Colfer's book series is skipping the big screen and heading straight to streaming service Disney+.

And now, we know when. Thanks to a brand new trailer for the fantasy sci-fi caper, it has now been confirmed that Artemis Fowl will be available to stream from June 12, exclusively on Disney's subscription service, of course.

While we never would have expected to see Disney's take on the 12-year-old criminal mastermind skip its cinema debut back when it was first delayed, this new (and improved) version of "straight to DVD" might be here to stay.

Because earlier this month, Disney's chairman Bob Iger suggested that more titles could be re-routed straight to Disney+ in the future.

"In terms of movies going ahead after Artemis, there may be a few more that we end up putting directly onto Disney+," he said. "In some cases we've announced new ones already, but later on in the calendar."

"I can't speak for all companies, but Disney will take this opportunity to look for ways to run our businesses more efficiently when we come back," he said.

Artemis Fowl will be available to watch on Disney+ from June 12, 2020.
