It doesn't take much these days for a celebrity to be "cancelled" for something they do, write, say, or believe in. Zombieland's Jesse Eisenberg knows this all to well, and has reached out to assure us he's not, in fact, a jerk.
In an interview with NME, he spoke about criticism he'd received for the way he'd treated LA-based journalist Romina Puga in a 2013 interview to promote Now You See Me.
Jesse made some questionable jokes about her interviewing technique, and when Romina responded that she was going to cry (jokingly or not), he responded: "No. Don't cry now. Cry after the interview is over, because otherwise it'll look like I was responsible for it."
She accused the actor of humiliating her, however Jesse didn't seem to have picked up on this during the interview.

Romina wrote an editorial to voice her upset at how she was treated, but Jesse has insisted he got a completely different vibe.

"It was, like, the exact opposite of what my experience was, and I didn't know the appropriate way to handle something that's completely mischaracterised," he said.
He went on to say that people he knew that had seen it had not taken Romina's view of things, and that he wasn't able to get in touch to apologise. "Everyone that's seen it tells me they thought it was a funny thing. Listen, I would never wanna upset somebody, and if I did upset her, obviously I would have acknowledged that."

While his latest movie, Vivarium, has been released to stream in line with coronavirus-related cinema closures, the actor has also been keen to chat about past roles.
Speaking to The National, he said that he would "love" to play Lex Luthor again but, like the rest of us, he has no idea if Justice League 2 will ever even happen.
"That's the coolest role to play," he said."I don't even know if they know what they're doing with the movies, but for me it was exhilarating. I would love to play that role forever [but] I have no knowledge about what they're doing with it."
