Fast and Furious' Vin Diesel gives update on the women-centred spin-off

The spin-off was announced last year.

Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel has shared an update on the saga's women-led spin-off.

It was previously revealed that a female-fronted project is in the works, but there have been very few details since the announcement of the new addition to the Fast & Furious franchise.

Speaking at the Road to F9 trailer launch event in Miami, Diesel told MTV: "I've created a female spin-off. And that script comes next month, so we will see."

Sharing ideas about the spin-off, Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays computer hacker Megan Ramsey, said: "I think it should be like a bad-ass girl movie."

"Definitely all the power pieces would need to be in place," Michelle Rodriguez added. "See what Charlize [Theron] is doing?

"We'd be like, 'Can we talk you into being a good girl?' She's so bad into this, right? She's so mean. I love her, though."

Diesel previously confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy writer Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are all on board for the female-led spin off.

Beer wrote the script for Netflix's Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, while Robertson-Dworet has worked on the screenplay for Captain Marvel and 2018's Tomb Raider.

Fast & Furious 9 will be released in cinemas on May 22.
