ITV1's coverage of the Manchester United Champions League group game against AS Roma pulled in 6 million viewers and a 26% audience share at 7.45pm on Tuesday night.
The channel's entire coverage pulled in 5.2 million and a 23% share over two and a half hours from 7.30pm. BBC One managed 5.9 million and a 26.1% share over an hour from 8pm with Holby City.
BBC Two's documentary Stephen Fry: HIV and Me attracted 2.5 million and an 11.2% share over its hour from 9pm.
The second instalment of Murphy's Law brought 4.5 million and a 19.9% share to BBC One from 9pm, up 400,000 on the first episode on Monday.
