Marvel Comics has announced the Avengers: Rage of Ultron original graphic novel at San Diego's Comic-Con International.

Writer Rick Remender and artist Jerome Opeña will reunite on the book, which is set in continuity.

"One of the things [editor] Tom Brevoort and I were really trying to establish with this was that it was something that felt like The Killing Joke," said Remender at the Marvel: Avengers & X-Men Axis panel (via Newsarama).

"It's a really strong done-in-one story, but really pushes things forward in the story.

"There will be consequences for the current team, the post-Axis team. By the end of this, we'll have a whole new Ultron, a whole new status quo, and will lead to some new things with that character.

"Oh, and Starfox plays a really big role. We're going to make Starfox the coolest Avenger we can!"

Remender and Opeña previously collaborated on Uncanny X-Force.

Axis is Marvel's next crossover event, which will unite the X-Men and Avengers against the forces of the Red Skull.

The publisher also unveiled an Axis: Revolutions supporting miniseries, with a first issue by Dennis Hopeless, Si Spurrier and Ken Lashley.

Avengers: Rage of Ultron will be released in April 2015.
