Software updates - is there anything better? Actually, we can think of a fair few things, but sometimes such mundane downloads contain hidden gems.

Starting at 2am BST tomorrow (June 22), players will be able to download the latest Xbox One Preview, which features a couple of important new features.

What to Read Next

First up is 'Language Independence'. In the current software version, Xbox One language options are restricted by location. The update will open up the entire catalogue of available languages, allowing users to select whichever tongue they bloody well like. Néih hóu! Why users were prohibited from doing so in the first place is a mystery.

Secondly, the update will feature a change to the billing process for pre-orders. At the moment, confirming a pre-order immediately deducts funds from the user's account. 'No more,' says Microsoft. Under the new system, charges may only be incurred within ten days of a game's release, preventing the annoying process of refunds if you change your fickle gamer mind.

Take note of the word 'may' in that sentence. There may still be circumstances where money is whipped from your digital wallet without delay. What exactly those are remains unseen.

Not finding the above too thrilling? Likely more exciting than the above will be the Windows 10 anniversary update for Xbox One, which is headed the way of Preview users in the next month.
