PlayStation 4 will support four wireless controllers at once, according to Sony Worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida.

Confirming the news on Twitter, Yoshida didn't elaborate on Sony's decision to reduce controller support from seven with the PS3 to four with the PS4.

The news comes the day after Microsoft revealed plans to support eight controllers in local multiplayer for Xbox One.

Elsewhere, Yoshida explained that PS Plus was not required for PS4 remote play using Vita, and that PS4 users could voice chat with friends in another game.

Sony is expected to unveil a virtual reality headset at this year's Tokyo Game Show, which begins on September 19.
