Nintendo has decided to cancel this year's Camp Miiverse activities in light of its president Satoru Iwata's passing.

The second annual Miiverse event kicked off on July 7 and was supposed to run until July 20.

"We decided to cancel future Camp Miiverse activities this summer in light of the recent events," Nintendo said in a statement on Miiverse.

"Please accept my deepest and most sincere gratitude to everyone who joined. We hope you had fun playing, and continue to do so playing our games. Thank you."

The purpose of the 2015 Camp Miiverse was to highlight events happening for games on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, including Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
