The Coalition has revealed that Gears of War 4 microtransactions exist and will be peppered throughout the game.

So there will be some potential to spend some real world dosh in Gears of War 4, aside from the initial upfront cost.

However, don't freak out just yet, because these microtransactions won't allow you to pay your way to greatness.

"We want to make sure that people understand that it's not pay to win; everything is earnable in the game through play - the player accrues lots of credits as they play. It's really meant as an enrichment tool," explained Don Ferguson, Studio Head at The Coalition. "Really it's having the ability to expedite due to lack of time."

Microtransactions will just be cosmetic and to allow you to level up a little quicker or other things that won't make you stronger.

"Everything in PVP is going to be just around customisation, there's no way to make yourself play better in PVP through this mechanic. It's meant solely as a booster so that you can raise your level a bit quicker, earn credits a little faster and how I look. But that's basically the impact that it'll have on PVP."

The studio isn't ready to talk about pricing just yet though.

"We're still playing with that. I think it's one of the trickier things to figure out in terms of how to balance the economy. We have the three different tiers and they speak to different things. How do you value different things at different levels? That'll be part of what we have to figure out."
