Publisher Square Enix made the announcement at the Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV live event in Los Angeles overnight.

A demo is also available for the long-awaited sequel and is free to all on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with no purchase needed.

"Platinum Demo - Final Fantasy XV whisks players away to a fragmented dreamscape, introducing an original story with a number of unique twists," said its makers.

"Join young Noctis and his magical guide, Carbuncle as you explore the fantastical world of his dreams."

The game's title song is a cover of Ben E King's 'Stand by Me' by Florence + the Machine.

Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV was also announced - a new anime series consisting of five standalone episodes.
