Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare hasn't got off to the best start. The initial trailer wasn't well received and the dedicated CoD audience still seems wary of its sci-fi setting.
Of course, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was also sci-fi themed, but it was nerd-lite. Its weapons stretched as far as electrical arcs, vomit induction, and the occasional hack, but no further.

Infinite Warfare, on the other hand, casts aside any pretence that the series is grounded in reality with exploding mechanical spiders, human-sounding robot buddies, and invasions from the dark cosmos in which zerg-like drop pods fall from the sky.

The newest Call of Duty sees players take charge of Lieutenant Reyes, who is caught up in a series of events after a sneak attack on Earth sees him promoted to captain.
In the words of the devs at the beginning of the video, Infinite Warfare will feature "a classic story of good versus evil with large scale war, visceral combat, and all new gameplay experiences". Big promises.
Unfortunately the video isn't performing particularly well - 33,201 likes versus 16,656 dislikes. The spectacle is impressive, but we suspect that canny gamers see far too many parallels with Black Ops 3, which also features armies of robot invaders.
Infinite Warfare will hit Xbox One, PC, and PS4 on November 4.
