How do you make World War One look appealing? Wastelands caked in the mud and blood of quivering humans isn't everyone's idea of a grand day out, but we have to admit that Battlefield 1 is looking b-e-a-uuuutiful. Desensitisation is a wonderful thing.

The guys and gals over at Eurogamer managed to capture 30 minutes of Battlefield 1's Conquest game mode. It's frenetic, there's a lot of blam-blam ugh-ugh, and best of all, there's a massive bloody tank, and as we all know, tanks make everything better without exception.

In spite of its 20th-century feel, it looks like Battlefield 1 is taking a few cues from last year's Star Wars: Battlefront - hardly a surprise given that the two games were developed in parallel. And what the former lacks in AT-ATs, it seems determined to make up for with armoured zeppelins raining fire from on high.

In addition to the visual splendour, there are some other sweet features on display. When respawning, players hurtle downward from a bird's-eye view, letting them orientate themselves before they've taken a single step. Smart stuff.

We're looking forward to hearing Battlefield 1 once again announce that 'we are losing objective apples' in its most well-to-do voice when the game hits the shelves in October.
