Update: Assassin's Creed Unity's fourth major patch is out now on PS4 and Xbox One.
According to Ubisoft, the 6.7GB download replaces and updates "portions of the Paris city map where we are seeing issues".
"This explains the large size of this title update," Ubisoft continues. "However, since a large portion of the patch replaces existing files the net increase to the game's overall size will be less than 6.7GB."
In a follow-up post, Ubisoft confirmed that some Xbox One users have been forced to redownload the entire 40GB when applying the patch.
"This is obviously not the expected behavior, and we apologise that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download.
"This issue isn't causing any other problems and once the download is completed players will have the most-up-to-date and fully patched version of Assassin's Creed Unity."

Ubisoft is working with Microsoft to rectify the issue and has suggested that users with the disc version uninstall the game and then reinstall it.
The patch will make its PC debut later this week.

Ubisoft says it is still working on the action-adventure title's next major update, which was supposed to begin rolling out yesterday (December 15).
"As stated last week, we'd expected to release the patch today (and we know that many are anticipating its release), but we are choosing to hold off until we can give you the improvements we've promised," the developer said in a live update.
"We are committed to delivering major performance improvements, which requires that we refurbish the Paris map and that will take a few more days to hit the high level of quality our players deserve."
The patch will address frame rate and other performance issues, as well as matchmaking and connectivity problems.
Out now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, Assassin's Creed Unity was riddled with frame rate issues and other glitches when it made its debut last month.
