Former Burnout team tease spiritual successor: 'Expect speed, traffic, and lots of crashing'

Those itching for a new Burnout, rejoice - former staffers on EA's fan-favourite carnage-filled racer Burnout have teased a spiritual successor at their new studio.

Three Fields - founded by former Criterion co-founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry in early 2014 - tweeted that after releasing a multiplayer sports game in 2016, it would be next turning its attention to the racing genre.

Two things. Our first game is a multiplayer sports game. Coming Spring 2016. Then we make a driving game. RT and #ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster

What sort of driving game you ask? A spiritual successor. Speed. Traffic. And Crashing. Lots and lots of crashing. #ShinyRedSomething

While not naming names, the team did ask which game in the Burnout series it should be inspired by. The second, third or fourth?

Criterion last worked on Burnout with 2008's open-world Paradise and top-down spin-off Crash! in 2011, before moving onto the Need for Speed franchise.

Since 2013, the studio has since been working on a new, unnamed first-person vehicle game that was showcased at the E3 expo last year.

The last we heard of an official Burnout game was in late 2013, before Ward and Sperry left the company.

A surprise revelation in recent months is Nintendo once asked the studio to make a new F-Zero game - but was too busy to do so.
