This isn't the first time Super Mario characters have made a leap into the racing world - Nintendo itself built a series of 'real life' Mario Karts for 2011's DS entry Mario Kart 7.

Mario Kart recently appeared in an unofficial mod for Grand Theft Auto 5, trading shells and fire flowers for Molotovs and firing pistols.

Meanwhile, the series recently collided with the world of Mad Max in a parody trailer that saw Max come face-to-face with the dreaded Rainbow Road.
