Update: Yooka-Laylee has raised 1 million and hit all of its stretch goals in just 24-hours.

The game will now launch on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PC and Mac simultaneously, and will include additional multiplayer modes, minecart sections and new character designs.

If the game reaches 1.1 million, the development team will add an N64 shader and a special GK rap and video. Hitting 1.2 million unlocks a developer walkthrough and commentary video.

Original story: Yooka-Laylee - the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie being made by a new studio formed of ex-Rare developers - has achieved funding through Kickstarter in a staggering amount of time.

The game reached its crowd-funding goal of £175,000 within 40 minutes of going live on May 1. The game has another 46 days to go before its funding period ends.

In development by Playtonic Games, Yooka-Laylee is a new 3D adventure that evokes classic platformers from the N64 era.

What to Read Next

The duo of Yooka and Laylee - created by the same character artist as the rebooted Donkey Kong family and Banjo-Kazooie - must use their respective abilities to explore colourful worlds.

Levels will be filled with collectables named Pagies, a currency used to unlock more areas and expand existing ones.

The game will also feature 'Play Tonics' to modify the game to suit the player's own style - whether it's running faster or flying further - as well as hidden retro-style arcade mini-games.

The soundtrack, meanwhile, is composed by Donkey Kong Country's David Wise, Banjo-Kazooie composer Grand Kirkhope and Conker sound effects lead Steve Burke.

The game's Kickstarter stretch goals - which go up to £1 million - include Quiz Show levels, extra bosses and transformations, mine cart sections and multiplayer support.

Yooka-Laylee will be released on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, Mac and Linux, with the timing of each platform depending on the level of crowd-funding achieved.
