The past week has seen more evidence of a rising trend in disappointing launch day issues, with severe bugs and server problems affecting Assassin's Creed Unity and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

In more positive news, Square Enix announced Just Cause 3, Rockstar confirmed the long-awaited addition of heists to GTA Online and Digital Spy went hands-on with a number of upcoming new titles.

1. Upcoming update will fix Assassin's Creed Unity frame rate issues and glitches:

Following an extremely rocky launch for Assassin's Creed Unity, Ubisoft has promised a series of imminent updates addressing the problems, which included noticeable frame rate instability and a number of odd glitches. The first patch will prevent instances of protagonist Arno falling through the ground and also getting stuck in hay carts.

After a year of activity, Rockstar Games has finally announced the addition of Heists to GTA Online. All four consoles will receive the long-awaited feature as part of the first title update following its next-gen release. Customers can also expect a day-one patch on PS4 & Xbox One, which includes "last tweaks and optimisation fixes for game day".

3. Halo: The Master Chief Collection (out this week) to fix matchmaking issues, culls playlists to help:

Yet another game to suffer issues following its launch this week is Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One. Developer 343 industries has vowed to fix matchmaking issues through a number of server-side fixes. Going one step further yesterday (November 14), a number of playlists were temporarily scrapped in order to improve matchmaking.

4. Mario Kart 8's first DLC out now:

Thursday (November 13) saw the arrival of Mario Kart 8's first DLC pack on the Wii U. The highly anticipated update includes eight new courses, as well as three new characters - including Link from The Legend of Zelda - and four new vehicles. New tracks such as 'Hyrule Circuit' appear alongside a selection of re-imagined retro levels including the classic 'Rainbow Road'.

5. Just Cause 3 officially announced by Square Enix:

After a recently-surfaced leak, Square Enix has officially announced Just Cause 3. The sequel to the successful 2010 open-world title will launch next year on next-gen consoles and PC. Featuring improved parachute and grapple mechanics, the upcoming game sees players explore a fictional Mediterranean world, all the while taking part in intense cinematic combat. The announcement also quashed previous rumours of a free-to-play model for the game.

6. VGX rival The Game Awards announced for December:

Geoff Keighley has announced The Game Awards. Touted as a rival to VGX, the first show will air live from the AXIS Theater in Las Vegas on December 5. As well as awards, the ceremony will showcase world premiere announcements and include musical performances in a drive to celebrate the cultural significance of "the world's most dynamic form of entertainment". Tickets for the event are already on sale.


7. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare outsells Destiny, Watch Dogs and Wolfenstein combined:

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the latest in the FPS franchise Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has achieved fantastic launch success, selling more week one units than Titanfall, Wolfenstein and Destiny combined, as well as ending FIFA 15's six-week chart reign. The sequel also beat last year's Call of Duty: Ghosts in week one sales, becoming the fifth biggest-selling COD at launch.


8. Halo 5: Guardians is revealed:

Alongside the launch of The Master Chief Collection, this week saw 343 Industries show off the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta. Digital Spy got a chance to experience the beta hands-on, looking at new abilities such as aiming down sights and enhanced mobility, both of which aim to bring the game up to speed with other popular shooters.

9. Overwatch revealed by Blizzard:

Following the announcement of Overwatch last week at BlizzCon - the first new property by Blizzard in 17 years - we got to grips with the new shooter. Overwatch is said to be a shooter aimed at all players, in a genre never before approached by the developers, traditionally known for their top-down strategy and MMORPG games.

10. World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor out now, expansion hit by DDOS attack:

Blizzard also launched the World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor expansion on Thursday (November 13), but suffered a setback in the form of a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack. The expansion experienced server issues "due to the sheer number of players attempting to enter Draenor from a single location", resulting in user latency. The problems were tackled by temporarily lowering maximum realm populations.
