Defiance goes free-to-play on PC, consoles to switch in July

Trion Worlds shooter will launch as free-to-play on PS3 and Xbox 360 in July.

Defiance, the massively multiplayer online shooter that crosses over with the US TV show of the same name, is now free-to-play on the PC.

The change coincides with season two of the US television series, which airs on June 19 on Syfy.

Trion has also targeted July 15 as the date to switch to free-to-play on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

New and returning players will be able to play through new Stahma's Interests story missions, as well as fighting through the entire Bay Area storyline.

Players who buy a new boxed or digital copy of the game get bonuses that include extra XP, currency bonuses and special lockboxes available daily and weekly.

Terminator star Linda Hamilton is to appear as a guest star in the show's second season.
