Gillian Anderson may not have attended the New York Comic-Con panel of The X-Files in person but she certainly made sure the show's fans knew how she felt about it.

Anderson taped a message from Jodhpur, India, where she is filming Viceroy's House, in character as Lady Mountbatten as she apologised to X-Files fans for not being there with them at the panel on Saturday (October 10).

"I really hope you enjoy our episode and that it doesn't ruin the entire season by showing it prematurely," Anderson said on the tape, which was screened to the audience.

"I hope you have the most delicious time, and again, I'm working so hard here in Jodhpur and I'm very sad not to see you."

Earlier this year, it was announced that The X-Files will return as a mini-series, which is set to premiere January 24, 2016.
