The X-Files will take over from Gotham, set to return in the spring.

David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi are all confirmed to be returning to the paranormal series as their FBI agent characters.

The X-Files creator Chris Carter previously said that it was "a perfect time" for the show's revival.

"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," he said. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."
