Another X-Men TV series is in the works - and its storyline hints that it might actually involve the X-Men themselves.

Fox is partnering with Burn Notice's Matt Nix on an upcoming pilot, which will at the very least be set in the X-Men universe.

This currently-untitled pilot centres around parents who discover that their two children have been blessed (or cursed) with mutant powers.

When the kids are targeted by the US government, the family go on the run with help from an underground mutant resistance faction.

This clandestine mutant group bears at least passing similarity to Professor X's X-Men team - but could also be an anti-hero faction like Magneto's Brotherhood, The Runaways or an entirely new team.

Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb announced today (July 12): "Marvel Television is thrilled to be co-producing with 20th Century Fox Television on our first project.

Fox president David Madden also expressed his excitement for his network to venture into "this thrilling universe" of the X-Men.

"There's comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships, and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw," Madden teased of the pilot.

"With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series."

Fox previously developed an X-Men-related series based around the villainous Hellfire Club - although its current status is unknown.

Sister network FX is moving full-steam ahead with Legion, another X-Men spinoff starring Dan Stevens as the powerful psychic mutant David Haller.

Fargo writer Noah Hawley's Legion will draw on influences from the X-Men comics, but will stand alone from its blockbuster film series.
