James Wan has already delved into the seven seas with the Aquaman movie. Next up, he'll head over to the swamps of Louisiana for another DC project.

The filmmaker is heading up a live-action series based on the classic comic character Swamp Thing to premiere in 2019 on DC's streaming service, which we now know will be called DC Universe.

Wan will be partnering on Swamp Thing with an impressive producing team including Mark Verheiden (Falling Skies), Gary Dauberman (The Conjuring) and Michael Clear (Annabelle: Creation), with Verheiden and Dauberman penning the pilot.

Here's the official plot synopsis for Swamp Thing: "When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her.

"But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp's mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

Swamp Thing was previously adapted for the small screen for a USA Network live-action show in the early 1990s, with Dick Durock playing the tragic superhero.

There had been rumblings that Swamp Thing would be featured in DC's Dark Universe movie along with John Constantine and Zatanna, but the project's ever-changing directing lineup hasn't moved beyond the development stage.

DC's streaming service has lined up a Titans live-action series starring Brenton Thwaites as Robin, a Superman prequel pairing Lex Luthor and Lois Lane as supernatural investigators, a Harley Quinn animated series and the revival of Young Justice, in addition to Swamp Thing.
