Prince fans were pretty miffed following Justin Timberlake's Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 4).

Timberlake hasn't performed at the Super Bowl since 2004's infamous 'nipplegate', where he exposed Janet Jackson's bare breast.

Sadly for JT, this year's performance also went down like a lead balloon with many viewers, as his 'duet' with Prince failed to impress.

In tribute to the late singer, Timberlake covered 1984 hit 'I Would Die 4 U' alongside a large projected video of Prince performing in the background.

There had been plenty of reports that JT would be paying tribute to Prince with a hologram of the late pop funk phenomenon, but a backlash put an end to those rumours.

Hours after news of the planned hologram broke, Prince's long-term friend and drummer Sheila E took to Twitter to share her disapproval of the plans, revealing that the late singer had told her: "Don't ever let anyone do a hologram of me. Not cool if this happens."
