The series itself is a "slow-burn" affair, and so is the wait for a second season of The Punisher to drop, it seems.

And clearly just as impatient as fans for the return of Frank Castle is Jon Bernthal, who has recently teased the imminent arrival of another chapter in Marvel's gritty Netflix series.

Retweeting a GIF of Frank Castle dishing out a typically brutal dose of punishment over on Twitter, Bernthal wrote: "Tick. Tock."

Uh, let's not keep this man waiting for much longer, guys.

Although season two of The Punisher isn't expected to arrive until next year, the series' showrunner Steve Lightfoot has been getting his defence against complaints in early.

Defending the "slow" pace of the show, Lightfoot dismissed concerns that a 13-episode run is too long and argued that 10 episodes would simply mean "less story."

Funny, that.

Season one of The Punisher is available to stream on Netflix now.
