21. Ashford
Digital SpyIf Westeros were Great Britain, Ashford would be Banbury. In the middle of the Midlands, but not a major hub in its own right. A quintessentially Westerosi town in The Reach, with rich farmland, a river and a handily big tournament ground.

32. Dragonstone
HBOAncestral home of the Targaryens since before Aegon's Conquest, and dwelling place of Daemon (Matt Smith).
42. Dragonstone
Digital SpyIn Game of Thrones it was held by Stannis Baratheon for most of the series. (Ser Davos smuggled onions across to it during a siege, earning him a knighthood.) In the season seven premiere, Daenerys reclaimed it – which is fair enough as she was born there.

53. Sunspear, Dorne
HBOThat's Prince Doran of Dorne, shortly before being assassinated by his family.
63. Dorne and the Stepstones
Digital SpySite of no-one's favourite GoT storyline, and the home of Prince Oberyn and the Sand Snakes. It's very hot in Dorne and more than a little Hispanic in flavour. Pretty but boring. Immediately to the east are some small islands called the Stepstones, so named because it's a short hop over them from Westeros to Essos and back. The Crab Feeder operated there in the name of the Triarchy (an alliance of the free Cities of Essos), killing pirates and cementing the power of Targaryens' rivals.

HBOHere's Arya regarding the Titan of Braavos shortly before being stabbed by The Waif.
84. Braavos
Digital SpyHome of Syrio Forel, First Sword of Braavos and Arya's fencing teacher. The Free City is where Arya wound up after fleeing Westeros, and where she learned the ways of Jaqen H'ghar and the Faceless Men. Lots of canals, if you like that kind of thing, and a colossal Titan statue all on its own.

95. The Eyrie
HBOThat's Ser Vardis Egan being hurled out the moon door by Bronn. We miss that guy. (We barely remember that guy.)
105. The Eyrie
Digital SpyThe Eyrie was mad Lysa Arryn's fortress, and was inherited by her feeble son Robin. It's a castle in the Vale, a fertile region surrounded on all but one side by mountains, and is virtually impregnable. Colourful locals include Mord the gaoler.

HBODon't remember it? It only featured briefly in season seven of GoT.
126. Casterly Rock
Digital SpyIt was barely shown in the series, but it's the home of the Lannisters, who are – or were, at least – literally sitting on a goldmine.

147. King's Landing
Digital SpyNotable landmarks include the Red Keep (the royal stronghold and home of the Iron Throne) and the ruins of the Great Sept of Baelor. If you're thinking of visiting, don't miss the unique sights of Littlefinger's brothels, and the unique smells of Flea Bottom.

HBOHow did they build those castles, eh?
168. The Iron Islands
Digital SpyTheon Greyjoy's dismal, salty home. The Greyjoy words are 'We Do Not Sow' – so don't expect fertile farmlands on Great Wyk, Pyke and the rest, just loads of seagoing reavers, religious fanatics, sheep and probably some incest.

179. Meereen
HBO 189. Meereen
Digital SpyThis is where Daenerys was hanging out for aaaages, greatest of the three ancient cities on Slavers' Bay (the others are Yunkai and Astapor). It's got a big pyramid and used to have a statue of a harpy. Subsequently it had lots of liberated slaves and crispy-fried former Wise Masters.

HBOHere are Sam and Gilly on their way in.
2010. Oldtown
Digital SpyA bit like a medieval Oxford or Cambridge, Oldtown is a university town, home to the Citadel, the enormous tower where all the country's Maesters are trained. Sam did a bit of book-learnin' there.
