Alongside Andrew Lincoln, the other long-lasting big name departing The Walking Dead in season 9 is Lauren Cohan.

Maggie has been a staple of the show ever since its second season, and there appear to be plans in place for a return.

However, given that she has new show Whiskey Cavalier coming next year, Cohan has admitted that the prospect of more Maggie in the future is up in the air at the moment.

"I just don't think it's possible for me to know that right now," she told Entertainment Weekly. "The cool thing is that I don't have to.

"The right thing is gonna show itself to me. Here's the thing: I could say, 'This is gonna happen, that's gonna happen, this is what I hope.' But the truth is I can only do what's in front of me."

However, the actress did offer a glimmer of hope when asked about discussions with the show's bosses, adding: "We have had creative story conversation about what could happen with the character, and that's all I know."

Back in August, Cohan opened up about her reason for leaving the show, explaining: "Eight years is a really long time to be in those emotional depths.

"It's really fun for me because I never thought about drama as much when I started this career and I always kind of assumed I'd do, like, light fare."

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX and NOW TV in the UK.
