If Roseanne spin-off The Conners isn't killing off Roseanne Barr, ABC is doing a really bad job of marketing the new season.

Because the first real footage from this continuation of Roseanne promises that there's "one thing on everyone's mind" when it comes to The Conners — and it's probably not the corn-holders, as Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) goes on to complain.

The clip dances around the fate of Roseanne Conner (Roseanne Barr) by having Jackie and Darlene (Sara Gilbert) try to plan how the family can move on from something to enjoy the rest of the holiday season.

"I say we follow the Conner traditions," Darlene suggests. "Spend every dime we have on Halloween and then we have nothing to be thankful for and nothing to buy gifts with."

The teaser never does spill the beans on what the family are coming to grips with, but if you believe Roseanne Barr herself, it's that her character Roseanne Conner will "die of an opioid overdose".

This was foreshadowed in the previous season of Roseanne when her character sought treatment. That was all before the actress was fired for tweeting racist comments about former Obama administration official Valerie Jarrett.

It remains to be seen whether long-time Roseanne fans will be tuning in for this spin-off, but Barr herself has insisted that she won't be watching.

"I'm not going to curse it or bless it. I'm staying neutral," she said last month. "That's what I do. I'm staying neutral. I'm staying away from it.

"Not wishing bad on anyone, and I don't wish good for my enemies. I don't. I can't. I just stay neutral. That's what I gotta do."

The Conners premieres on Tuesday, October 16 at 8pm ET on ABC in the US.
