Netflix is clarifying confusion about the fate of its Marvel shows in the wake of Disney announcing its own streaming service.
Last year, Disney executive Kevin Mayer seemed to suggest that its own streamer would be the exclusive home to Marvel content in the future. However, Netflix later insisted that its current Marvel shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders would be staying put.
At the TCA press tour over the weekend, Netflix executive Cindy Holland indicated that there are conversations on-going with Disney about taking characters from those shows and spinning them off into their own series (via IGN).
"The original agreement with Marvel Television was for four series, plus The Defenders miniseries," she said. "We added The Punisher along the way.
"And there's always an ongoing discussion as to whether we might spin off a couple of characters into additional properties."
One series that has lagged getting from page to screen is Daredevil, which premiered its second season all the way back in March 2016 and doesn't yet have a return date for its third.

"The biggest issue [with Daredevil] was the timing of production and launching of The Defenders because what that meant is we had to shut down all of the shows, so all the actors [could] be available for The Defenders so it's more [a] function of that," Holland told Deadline.
"There is no problem with this season, I think it's fantastic, it's a real return to form in my view."
She was a bit more coy about the prospects of other series, saying it's "possible" that The Defenders could get a second season someday and that Netflix hasn't "made any firm decisions yet" on a third season of Luke Cage.
