Have you ever wondered what the definitive best-ever episode of The Simpsons is? Well one intrepid pollster decided to host The Simpsons World Cup to find out the answer.

Thom Phipps, a comedy writer, questioned people on Twitter over the course of a month, creating polls that anyone could vote in.

The first group-stages received around 500 votes, and as things picked up towards and the grand final – which was posted nearly a month later – over 8,000 nominations were logged.

So which episode has made it out of this poll victorious as the best Simpsons episode of all time?

It's 'Marge vs the Monorail'!

The winning episode was aired way back in 1993 and was written by talkshow host Conan O'Brien, who produced two seasons of The Simpsons in the '90s.

It wasn't by any means a landslide win, however – runner-up 'Last Exit to Springfield' got 45% of the votes, which also aired in 1993. (Was 1993 The Simpsons peak year? Discuss.)
