The slog (to some people) that was season seven is becoming a distant memory.
With the upcoming eighth season and All-Out War, The Walking Dead is going to deliver an unprecedented amount of action for the show – according to showrunner Scott Gimple.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the boss suggested that the war demanded consecutive intense and "action-heavy" episodes to do the storyline justice.

"It's massively heavy on the action," he said. "I really wanted to push into different ways than we've done things in a long time, just by virtue of we're a show going into its eighth year and I really don't want to do what we've done before, even if we've done it really well.
"Because of that, and really mostly because of the narrative itself, I had us embrace a really action-heavy story for several episodes in a row."

Gimple added that no episode they've shot yet has really been quiet or calm.

"Even what I call the quieter episode, which is episode 5, even looking at that, it still doesn't feel chill and introspective," he said.
"We're pushing ourselves to structure the stories in different ways, or at least different ways than we've done in a long time. It's action on action on action."
The Walking Dead launches its eighth season on October 22 on AMC in the US. It will air on FOX in the UK.
