It has been a very long year since we last saw the Underwoods, but now our first proper glimpse of House of Cards season five is finally here.

And it seems that Frank and Claire are as ruthless as ever in the first trailer for the Netflix drama's next chapter.

We mean, the clip starts off with Frank saying: "The American people don't know what's best for them…" Oh, President Underwood, how we have missed you.

Comparing his electorate to "children", with him having to "wipe their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths", it seems Frank still has to win their votes. Best not use that in a campaign ad, eh Frank?

We see the Underwoods on the campaign trail, picking up from where we left off in season four as they still face the rival Conways in the battle for the White House.

It also seems like that battle may go down to the wire, as we glimpse a tight electoral map, and if Frank and Claire do keep their keys to the White House, it appears they have plans to hold on to power for some time to come.

"One nation. Underwood." Enough said.

The new season of House of Cards premieres May 30 on Netflix.
