We have good news for DC TV fans who've be disappointed with the lack of Katie Cassidy on Arrow this season - she's coming back with a vengeance.

After Laurel Lance (aka the Black Canary) was tragically killed off in a major twist this time last year, we've most recently seen Cassidy in the DC Universe as part of an alternate reality in the 'Invasion' crossover and playing Earth-2 doppelgänger the Black Siren.

The good news is that Katie Cassidy is returning to Arrow's main cast beginning in season six this autumn. The bad news is that she definitely won't be bringing Laurel Lance back from the dead to do so.

Instead, the Black Siren will presumably escape from ARGUS captivity (where she was being handled for attacking Felicity) just in time for season five's final two episodes and then continue on once Arrow returns this fall (via Entertainment Weekly).

"One of the things that most excites us about Arrow is that we go where the story takes us. Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel's doppelgänger, Black Siren," producer Marc Guggenheim revealed.

"We were so taken by Katie's fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to Arrow as Black Siren, though as her appearances on Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow this season show, she never really left the family."

Don't get discouraged, Laurel Lance fans! You will see Laurel before the end of the season when she pops up in the Legends of Tomorrow thanks to the show's wibbly wobbly timey wimey structure.

Since Laurel's death last spring at the hands of Damien Darhk, two different young women have taken up the mantle of the Black Canary as part of Team Arrow.

First was Evelyn Sharp, who quickly revealed herself to be a traitor working with the Green Arrow's nemesis Prometheus. More recently we've seen the meta-human Dinah Drake wear the black mask.

Arrow continues on Wednesdays on The CW in the US. Sky1 airs the show in the UK.
