Not much is known about the plot of Fargo season three, but we do now know this: Ewan McGregor is not playing twins.

The T2 Trainspotting star will be taking on the dual roles of brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy in the eagerly anticipated third season of FX's hit adaptation, and he's told Digital Spy a bit more about the two.

"I'm playing two brothers so it involves quite a bit of prosthetics and make-up. They look very different, they're not twins. By playing them, I've have to find their voices which has been a challenge, but I've really enjoyed that," McGregor explained.

Filming is currently underway on Fargo season three, running until May, and he added that they've already completed shooting the first episode over 14 days in Calgary.

"It was really exciting. I like the people that are making it, I like the actors in it and I loved very much season one and two. There are great scenes to play," McGregor enthused.

His characters Emmit and Ray are polar opposites. Emmit has built a small business empire and has a happy family, while his balding brother Ray harbours only jealousy and resentment.

Boardwalk Empire's Michael Stuhlbarg plays Emmit's right-hand man Sly Feltz, Harry Potter's David Thewlis is mysterious loner VM Vargas and Deadpool's Karan Soni is scientist Dr. Homer Gilruth.

Best. Cast. Ever.

Further details of the plot are tightly under wraps, but it has been teased that Fargo season three will include "at least one" older version of a familiar character.

Fargo is expected to return to FX later in 2017, while T2 Trainspotting arrives in UK cinemas on January 27.
