American Horror Story season 6 hasn't even started yet and we're already cowering under our favourite pillow after watching those frankly disgusting and terrifying teasers.

As details start to slowly drip out regarding the sixth instalment of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's anthology series, we've got a few burning questions we need answering ASAP. But first, watch all the teasers in one go, if you dare:

What to Read Next

1. What the hell is season 6's theme?

The creators themselves have previously said that the season will revolve around kids, and a plot split between past and present.

New unofficial set photos posted on TMZ have kicked off huge speculation that the season will be about the mysterious disappearance of the North Carolinian colony of Roanoke. In 1590, 117 people simply vanished with zero explanation, except for one cryptic word left behind: 'Croatoan'. In the photos published online, that very word  is seen carved on a tree.

However, the Croatoan link is not new to the show. Way back in season one, Sarah Paulson's psychic character Billie Dean told the entire tale, explaining how the word can be used to banish unwanted spirits. But when Violet later used it on Chad, it didn't exactly work.

Meanwhile, other teasers have shown rusty farming equipment, creepy villagers and other clues which suggest a link to Rosemary's Baby or even the cult of Charles Manson. Could season 6 be AHS: Cult?

2. What does the '?6' mean?

Maybe the ? could simply be to hide its future title, or maybe it's not a ? at all. Fans have continued to speculate about the Charles Manson link, suggesting that certain clues look somewhat familiar:

Others wonder whether the 6 alludes to a satanic cult - 666 for season 6, perhaps? Maybe we're dealing with one particular satanic cult that returns throughout the ages? This teaser certainly implies it:

3. Who will be in the cast alongside Lady Gaga?

We definitely know that these lot will be returning: Lady Gaga, Evan Peters, Denis O'Hare, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Finn Wittrock, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson and Leslie Jordan.

But who else could we welcome to the fold? Actress Annabell Osorio has heavily implied that Cuba Gooding Jr will join the ranks (she later edited the post, but see it below):

4. Will Jessica Lange return?

We've definitely missed two of the major divas from AHS lately, so could they make a surprising return for season 6?

With theories and rumours suggesting that season 6 may be tied to the very beginning of the show, fans were hoping for a Lange comeback - but she recently revealed that she is sadly done with AHS. For the time being at least.

5. Will it tie into other seasons?

Likely: Ryan Murphy confirmed back in 2014 in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that all seasons of the show are connected, saying: "They're all very separate but there's clues every season that we're now telling you how the different worlds are intertwined."

Given the clues from the teasers (remember 'Piggy Piggy' from Murder House?), it looks like season 6 will be no different and have ties to the previous (and possibly future!) seasons of the show.

6. Will there be another musical number?

Lana Lana Bobana Banana Fana Fo Fana...Yes we still can't stop singing AHS: Asylum's take on Shirley Ellis's 1965 hit 'The Name Game'Just when you thought you'd seen it all on the show, they dropped this musical hit with Jude (Jessica Lange) showcasing her musical talents, not to mention epic rhyming skills.

Stevie Nicks cameoed as, well, herself, and performed 'Landslide' and 'Rhiannon' in season 3, while the last big musical number was Jessica Lange's cover of Lana Del Rey's 'Gods and Monsters' in Freak Show. It's no doubt Jessica Lange was the musical connoisseur for the show, but she's since left and there hasn't been another song sung, so far.

So will there be a new musical number? Well we all know Lady Gaga can sing, so perhaps she'll do some kind of American Horror Story version of 'Thriller', and everyone else will pop out of the graves as dancing zombies (hey, anything's possible).
