Fans of The Americans will be relieved to learn that even if KGB agents Elizabeth and Philip Jennings's cover gets blown soon, they'll be sticking around for two more seasons.

FX announced on Wednesday (May 25) that The Americans will come to an end in 2018, ordering 13 episodes for 2017 and 10 more for the following year.

This renewal effectively guarantees creators Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields can take their story of Cold War spying to its "perfect conclusion", FX says.

Weisberg and Fields announced today: "It's hard to believe we're heading into the final stretch on The Americans, and we're so grateful to know we'll be telling the story to its conclusion.

"The best part of the last four years has been the intensive and fruitful collaboration with all of the people who make this show - the teams at FX… our amazing cast, crew, and production team and our fellow writers. It's a lot of people putting their hearts and souls into The Americans, at this point for a lot of years. We're looking forward to the final two."

Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys star in The Americans as married Soviet sleeper agents whose lives hang precariously on carrying out deadly missions while pretending to be normal parents.
