ABC president Channing Dungey confirmed at the ABC Upfronts presentation on Tuesday (May 17) that new drama Notorious will fill in for Scandal this fall to accommodate Kerry Washington's pregnancy.
Dungey stressed that the Piper Perabo legal drama Notorious "made sense" for the Thursday 9pm ET timeslot because it's inspired by real-life hot-button topics.
News broke of Kerry Washington's pregnancy on May 2, and almost immediately there were reports that her impending motherhood would delay the Scandal start date.
Scandal was officially picked up for a sixth season by ABC all the way back in March.
ABC also unveiled previews of new fall dramas - including Scandal producer Shonda Rhimes's Romeo + Juliet sequel Still Star-Crossed - on Tuesday at a New York City multimedia presentation.
