Julie Plec, creator of The Vampire Diaries, has revealed that she's already decided how the hit CW show will end.

Adding that she doesn't know when that ending will happen, she explained that the "actual last sequence is pretty written in [her] head".

"Ever since Nina said goodbye, I've had a pretty clear ending in my head, which thankfully works wherever I put it," Plec told Vulture.

Nina Dobrev, who played Elena Gilbert, left the show at the end of series six.

She continued: "If it's the end of season eight, great. If it's the end of season nine, great. Whatever gets us to that moment will change a lot over the next year or two, but that actual last sequence is pretty written in my head already."

It is also looking like the current series finale will be a bit more romantic than the death and destruction we're used to.

Plec said: "Ironically, which I never said in any of the seven seasons of Vampire Diaries: I think we have more kissing than death as we get to the finale.

"Without giving anything away, I think our death count is comparatively low to the size of our kiss count."

More kissing, less dying. That's what we like.

Ian Somerhalder, better known as brooding vampire Damon Salvatore, recently struck fear into the hearts of fans by announcing that the eighth season of the show will be his last. Kat Graham also revealed that she would be leaving the show after season eight.

Season seven of The Vampire Diaries is shown on Sundays at 1.45am on TG4.
