Ryan Murphy's true crime anthology series Monster has confirmed the case that will feature in season three.
The Netflix show's first, polarising season focused on notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, while season two – which releases on the streaming platform this Thursday (September 19) – centres on the Menéndez brothers and the murder of their parents.
It's now been confirmed that Monster's third season will star Charlie Hunnam as serial killer Ed Gein, also known as the 'Butcher of Plainfield' (via Variety).

Gein's crimes gathered notoriety in 1957 after investigators discovered he'd exhumed bodies from local graveyards in his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, and found human remains during a search of his property.
Gein confessed to killing two women – Mary Hogan in 1954 and Bernice Worden in 1957 – but was suspected of killing more.

He was initially ruled unfit to stand trial but was later tried for Worden's murder in 1968, and died in a mental health facility in 1984.
Gein and his crimes reportedly served as the inspiration for multiple horror movie characters, including Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, Norman Bates from Psycho and Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Monster's second season, officially titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story, stars Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch as brothers Lyle and Erik Menéndez.
The pair were found guilty of first-degree murder for fatally shooting their parents, José and Mary Louise 'Kitty' Menéndez. In 1996, the siblings were sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Season one of Monster focused on the life and monstrous crimes of Jeffrey Dahmer, who brutally killed 17 boys and men between 1978 and 1991. Dahmer was played by Evan Peters.
After proving to be a ratings success, Netflix confirmed a further two seasons that would focus on "other monstrous figures who have impacted society".
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will stream on Netflix from September 19, while Dahmer is available to stream now.
