Who are Arryk and Erryk Cargyll in House of the Dragon?
House of the Dragon's Arryk and Erryk Cargyll are played by Luke and Elliott Tittensor respectively.
In season one of the show the twins started off as members of the Kingsguard under Viserys I (Paddy Considine). However when the king passed there were family feuds aplenty, and not just for the Targaryens.
The Cargyll twins, Erryk and Arryk, found themselves on opposing sides, with Ser Arryk setting up camp with team Green (Alicent, Aegon and the rest) while Erryk remained loyal to the named heir Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) on team Black.
Their cord was officially severed in season one, episode nine when, in the wake of Viserys' death, the two were tasked with finding a missing Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and delivering him to Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans).
Along the way, Erryk was openly dismissive of Aegon succeeding the throne and tried to get Arryk to see how immature and unsuited Aegon was for ruling. Arryk, however, remained steadfast in his loyalty to Aegon.
Things reached boiling point when they finally located the drunk Aegon, who was reluctant to return home and accept his duty.
Arryk found himself going head-to-head with Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) and Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), who had also been ordered to retrieve Aegon – but for Alicent (Olivia Cooke) instead of Otto.
While Arryk duelled with the prince and the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Erryk took one look at the chaotic mess – a by-product of Aegon's failings – and left.
However the noble Knight wasn't down in Fleabottom, shirking his responsibility. Instead Erryk was seen later in the episode helping Rhaenys Targaryan (Eve Best) escape her confinement.
'The Queen Who Never Was' was locked away as part of Alicent's hairbrained plan to get Rhaenys to back Aegon's claim to the throne. Cue the magnificent scene during Aegon's hasty coronation, where Rhaenys burst through the ground on the back of her fearsome dragon Meleys.
The Cargyll boys pick up again in House of the Dragon season two at a point where their brotherly bond is virtually non-existent as they serve each other's respective Targaryen King/Queen in Kings Landing and in Dragonstone.
This divide is put under further strain by Ser Criston Cole, who orders Arryk to impersonate his brother in order to kill Rhaenyra. (What drives Cole's bloodlust is more than vengeance, but you can read about that here.)
House of the Dragon season two will debut on June 16 in the US on HBO and Max, and on June 17 in UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW. Season one is available to stream now on HBO, Sky Atlantic and NOW.
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are also available on DVD and Blu-ray.
