The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has opened up about the decision to end the show with its fifth season.
It was confirmed this week that the fifth outing will be the Prime Video show's swansong, Kripke noting that it was "always the plan".
The show boss has now opened up a bit further about the decision making behind the scenes, revealing whether the streamer tried to convince him to make more.

“I would say they did lovingly,” he told TVLine. “There was no like, ‘You have to keep this show going.’ It was more of like a very friendly and respectful like, ‘Are you sure Season 5 is the last season? Are you sure you don’t want to do more?'”
Kripke added that they were “already, like, barreling towards this”, elaborating: “The truth is we knew that it was going to be a five-season story for years now.

The ending news comes ahead of the release of season 4, Kripke saying in his original post: “#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!

“Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”
The show was renewed for a fifth season last month, with Amazon MGM head of television Vernon Sanders saying at the time: "We are proud of this series that has grown into a global franchise, and we are thrilled that Eric Kripke and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell for all the loyal fans."
The franchise is also gearing up for a second season of spin-off Gen V, which first premiered last year.
The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes this Thursday (June 13) on Prime Video, with new episodes weekly. Seasons 1-3 and spin-off Gen V are also streaming on Prime Video.
