Station 19 boss Shonda Rhimes has bid farewell to the Grey's Anatomy spinoff following its final episode.

The show was announced to be wrapping up after seven seasons at the end of 2023, and Rhimes had a few bits to say on Instagram in the aftermath.

Next to some behind-the-scenes photos, she wrote: "To the extraordinary cast, writers and crew, communities have not only been built but forever changed by your talent, dedication and commitment! Thank you.

"These beloved characters will continue to hold space, reminding us of our humanity and the transformative power of storytelling. #station19."

Responding in the comment section, Station 19 lovers are now busy campaigning for its continuation at a different network – à la Lucifer, Uncoupled and Star Trek: Prodigy.

"You have the power to bring us a new home to @netflix it would do amazing. #Station19 #SaveStation19," read one message.

A second fan added: "I love this show so much. I don't want to say goodbye", while somebody else shared: "Maybe Station 19 can continue on with another network."

Rhimes, who also produced Bridgerton, paid tribute to Station 19 when its axing was first made public.

"Grateful for an unforgettable run," she penned on social media. "A heartfelt salute to the exceptional cast whose brilliance brought the characters to life and to the viewers who continued to make it possible! Thank you for the magic, the moments, and the memories."

Disney TV Group president Craig Erwich said in a statement: "For seven seasons, Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to [producers] Shonda and Betsy [Beers]' incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling."

Grey's Anatomy season 20 and Station 19's final season air on ABC in the US. Both shows stream on Disney+ in the UK.
